Boy Scouts Lose Philadelphia Lease in Gay-Rights Fight For three years the Philadelphia council of the Boy Scouts of America held its ground. It resisted the cityâ€™s request to change its discriminatory policy toward gay people despite threats that if it did not do so, the city would evict the group from a municipal building where the Scouts have resided practically rent free since 1928.
Last night the Congress passed the Climate Change Bill. At 1,800 pages plus, and as they had just initially received it mid afternoon; it was simply not possible that any of them, any of their staff members, or anyone else could have possibly read the thing and noted any details before the vote.
This is the latest empirical evidence ( and yes, it is anecdotal) that no one reads, or does any research on much of anything. It seems some people just don’t want to be bothered. One fellow said, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Boy howdy.
The new ignorance is out there on full display; and we seem quite proud of it.
So, as one thing leads to another; does anyone read or study the word of God, or has it been relegated to the stack of the unexamined and unread too? Do we believe whatever we are told from whatever source that seems reasonable to us? Are we losing the ability to examine in depth, and to hold an abstract thought?
