EBay Cancels Bids for Virgin Mary SandwichImage
MIAMI – The Internet auction house eBay Inc. canceled bids for half of a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich that its owner said bore the image of the Virgin Mary. Diana Duyser, of Hollywood, put the sandwich up for sale last week, drawing bids as high as $22,000 before eBay pulled the item Sunday night. The page was viewed almost 100,000 times before being taken down. An e-mail Duyser received from eBay said the sandwich broke its policy, which “does not allow listings that are intended as jokes.” But Duyser, a work-from-home jewelry designer who has bought and sold items on eBay for two years, said the grilled cheese wasn’t a joke. “How could eBay do this to me?” Duyser said Monday, hours before the online auction was supposed to have ended. EBay spokesman Hani Durzy said he did not have enough information to comment specifically on Duyser’s case, adding that the online auction house typically has about 29 million items on its site. Duyser thought eBay would be the best place to show off the sandwich, made on plain white bread and American cheese and cooked with no oil or butter. She said she took a bite after making it 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her from the bread. Duyser, 52, put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her night stand. At first, she was scared by the image, “but now that I realize how unique it is, I wanted to share it with the world,” Duyser told The Miami Herald. She said the sandwich has never sprouted a spore of mold.

I think I want to simply ask a few questions:
Why do people think the image of Mary is popping up all over the world? Out of the whole Bible, the scriptures devote only about 20 verses to Mary, the mother of Jesus and nearly half of these instances are duplications from the parallel gospel accounts. The scriptures give no command to the worship Mary, venerate Mary, or seek after Mary. Nor do the scriptures give any command to do anything in the name of or for the cause of Mary. The scriptures center around and give all authority to Jesus the Christ, not Mary.

Does anyone know what Mary the mother of Jesus looks like? How is it that we have these “sightings” of Mary when we do not know what she looked like? Did someone take her picture in the first century? Did the painters of the renaissance have a picture to base their images from? No one knows what any of the first century Christians looked like, including Mary.

Why would anyone offer $22,000 for a supposed sandwich that looks like Mary? I believe this is more disturbing than the woman who believes the sandwich looks like Mary. Is this what religion has come down to? Will God save us because we are the owners of a partially eaten pastrami that has the face of a person?

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (emphasis mine, John 14:6). The way to God is through Jesus not through Mary. Eternal life and forgiveness of sins is only found in Jesus and in none other: “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (emphasis mine, Acts 2:38).

It seems EBay has reversed its decision, starting the bidding over.
Where does the nonsense end?
