Inclusion Run Amok: A Muslim/Episcopal Priest Washington, -- An Episcopal priest in Washington state recently announced that she is both a Christian and a Muslim. The Rev. Ann Holmes Redding of Seattle made her profession of faith in Islam in March 2006. Episcopal Church Center employees told the Seattle Times that a person of dual faiths can serve as Episcopal clergy at the diocesan bishop's discretion. The Rt. Rev. Vincent Warner, bishop of the Diocese of Olympia, reportedly accepts Redding's dual faiths; consequently, she remains a priest in good standing within the diocese. –excerpted from an article in the Christian Newswire, 6.20.07 and as submitted by Muriel McConnon
Last night the Congress passed the Climate Change Bill. At 1,800 pages plus, and as they had just initially received it mid afternoon; it was simply not possible that any of them, any of their staff members, or anyone else could have possibly read the thing and noted any details before the vote.
This is the latest empirical evidence ( and yes, it is anecdotal) that no one reads, or does any research on much of anything. It seems some people just don’t want to be bothered. One fellow said, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Boy howdy.
The new ignorance is out there on full display; and we seem quite proud of it.
So, as one thing leads to another; does anyone read or study the word of God, or has it been relegated to the stack of the unexamined and unread too? Do we believe whatever we are told from whatever source that seems reasonable to us? Are we losing the ability to examine in depth, and to hold an abstract thought?
“Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?”
