No laws against web pornography Thanks to the federal courts in Philadelphia and the Supreme Court, more than a decade has now passed since Congress first acted to protect children from Internet pornography, and there are still no enforceable laws that require persons who commercially distribute pornography on the Internet to take reasonable steps to restrict children's access to the material. --Robert Peters, as found at www.christiannewswire.com 3.26.07 and submitted by Muriel McConnon.
Angelica calls it “Sponsatility”
“Want to know how youre doing as a parent? Check out how your children are doing when it comes to minding their manners. … How would children learn to avoid quarreling and whining? It is quite natural that they do so. Where would they learn to offer someone a seat if the bus is full? How would they learn that their chores are their jobs? How would they learn to speak when spoken to by adults, to say “please, “thank you and “youre welcome? God doesnt put us on Earth knowing these things. Children learn them when parents take the time to teach them and to enforce the rules. Absentee parenting, part-time parenting, parenting that says, “Go to your room, watch television, get on the computer, amuse yourself because I have neither the time nor the inclination to make you do otherwise, produces part-time results.” — Rebecca Hagelin as quoted in The Federalist at www.federalist.com
Some of these guys must be reading from a very different book:
“If ever there were a bleeding-heart liberal, it was Jesus Christ. I think the carpenter from Galilee was the original Democrat.”– James Moore (the author of Bushs Brain and other fun books)
Truth and anti-Christian policy:
“Our Founding Fathers prohibited a federal establishment of religion, but there is no evidence that they intended to set up a wall of separation between the state and religious belief itself. The evidence of this is all around us. In the Declaration of Independence, alone, there are no fewer than four mentions of a Supreme Being. “In God We Trust is engraved on our coinage. The Supreme Court opens its proceedings with a religious invocation. And the Congress opens each day with p ray er from its chaplains. The schoolchildren of the United States are entitled to the same privileges as Supreme Court Justices and Congressmen.” –Ronald Reagan
“All liars have their part”
“It is of great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible; and he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and a third time, till at length it becomes habitual.” –Thomas Jefferson
While on the subject of liars:
“We are now being coerced to accept and believe that a new political-cum-religious doctrine has arisen, namely that “There is but one political god, George W. Bush, and Tony Blair is his prophet” the veteran African leader (Robert Mugabe) told the UN General Assembly.
“Iraq today has become a vast inferno created by blatant and completely illegal and defiant acts of aggression by the US, Britain and their allies, he said. In a defiant speech, Mugabe, who is subject to sanctions by the European Union and the US for his human rights record, accused the West of manipulating international aid to punish governments such as his.
“Regrettably, we continue to see the unfortunate and futile tendency to use assistance in this area as reward for political compliance and malleability, making it unavailable to countries whose governments are deemed “inconvenient” he said. (Excerpted from www.SABCNews.com dated 09.22.04.)
Why not ban the Bible next and then a few other things like the Constitution too?
“A public school in Cupertino, California has banned a teacher from distributing copies of the Declaration of Independence. Given the courts jurisprudence on the religious clauses of the First Amendment, this should come as no surprise.” (From the Claremont Institute)
Welfare and entitlements-
“Repeal that [welfare] law, and you will soon see a change in their manners. … Six days shalt thou labor, though one of the old commandments long treated as out of date, will again be looked upon as a respectable precept; industry will increase, and with it plenty among the lower people; their circumstances will mend, and more will be done for their happiness by inuring them to provide for themselves, than could be done by dividing all your estates among them.” –Benjamin Franklin
“For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” (The apostle Paul as quoted in 2 Thessalonians 3: 10)
“What is socialism? We miss the boat if we say its the agenda of left-wingers and Democrats. According to Marxist doctrine, socialism is a stage of society between capitalism and communism where private ownership and control over property are eliminated. The essence of socialism is the attenuation and ultimate abolition of private property rights. Attacks on private property include, but are not limited to, confiscating the rightful property of one person and giving it to another to whom it doesnt belong. When this is done privately, we call it theft. When its done collectively, we use euphemisms: income transfers or redistribution. Its not just left-wingers and Democrats who call for and admire socialism but right-wingers and Republicans as well. Republicans and right-wingers support taking the earnings of one American and giving them to farmers, banks, airlines and other failing businesses. Democrats and left-wingers support taking the earnings of one American and giving them to poor people, cities and artists. Both agree on taking one Americans earnings to give to another; they simply differ on the recipients. This kind of congressional activity constitutes at least two-thirds of the federal budget. Regardless of the purpose, such behavior is immoral. Its a reduced form of slavery. After all, what is the essence of slavery? Its the forceful use of one person to serve the purposes of another person. When Congress, through the tax code, takes the earnings of one person and turns around to give it to another person in the forms of prescription drugs, Social Security, food stamps, farm subsidies or airline bailouts, it is forcibly using one person to serve the purposes of another. The moral question stands out in starker relief when we acknowledge that those spending programs coming out of Congress do not represent lawmakers reaching into their own pockets and sending out the money. Moreover, theres no tooth fairy or Santa Claus giving them the money. The fact that government has no resources of its very own forces us to acknowledge that the only way government can give one American a dollar is to first — through intimidation, threats and coercion — take that dollar from some other American.” – Economist Walter Williams, from a column posted at www.townhall.com
What did he say?
“If Christian ministers would crucify their fear of man, get solidly briefed regarding the chief political issues, not sweat necessary division, not get caught up in last days madness, maintain their hope for tomorrow, understand their liberties under God and our Constitution, not become so heavenly minded theyre no earthly good, focus on the majors and blow off bowing to cash instead of convictions, then maybe…just maybe…we will see their influence cause our nation to take a righteous turn away from the secularists putrid path.
“Modern liberalism tosses the scripture out on several different levels. How a true believer in the Christ defined by the scripture can buy into what Jesus, the prophets and apostles said and also what these secular thugs say is beyond me. In addition to liberalisms obvious and odious pro-holocaust-like abortion stance, its anti-biblical view of marriage, its scripture-slamming aggressive secularism, and its feckless view of our nations defense, liberalism completely clashes with the Christian worldview. Secular liberalisms aggressive desire to eradicate Christians rights should cause Christians to be concerned.” Doug Giles (excerpted from comments posted at www.federalist.com).
The election is over so lets play some politics:
(The following is from a recent Paul Harvey Broadcast.)
“The major pharmaceutical companies in the US provided almost 90% of the nations flu vaccine at one time. They did this despite a very low profit margin for the product. Basically, they were doing us a favor.
“In the late 80’s a man from North Carolina who had received the vaccine got the flu. The strain he caught was one of the strains in that years vaccine made by a US company. What did he do? He sued and he won. He was awarded almost $5 million! After that case was appealed and lost, most US pharmaceutical companies stopped making the vaccine.
“The liability outweighed the profit margin. Since UK and Canadian laws prohibit such frivolous law suits UK and Canadian companies began selling the vaccine in the US .
By the way…the lawyer that represented the man in the flu shot law suit was a young ambulance chaser by the name of John Edwards. And now you know the rest of the story.”
Arrows from the Yeomen of the Blogosphere penetrate armor clad reporters
“Who was the biggest loser of the 2004 election? It is easy to say Mr. Kerry: he was a poor candidate with a poor campaign. But I do think the biggest loser was the mainstream media, the famous MSM, the initials that became popular in this election cycle. Every time the big networks and big broadsheet national newspapers tried to pull off a bit of pro-liberal mischief–CBS and the fabricated Bush National Guard documents, the New York Times and bombgate, CBSs “60 Minutes” attempting to coordinate the breaking of bombgate on the Sunday before the election–the yeomen of the blogosphere and AM radio and the Internet took them down. It was to me a great historical development in the history of politics in America . It was Agincourt . It was the yeomen of King Harry taking down the French aristocracy with new technology and rough guts. God bless the pajama-clad yeomen of America . Some day, when America is hit again, and lines go down, and media are hard to get, these bloggers and site runners and independent Internetters of all sorts will find a way to file, and get their word out, and it will be part of the saving of our country.” Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal, Opinion, 11.04.04 .
The Mobile Cheeseburger?
“Today, I suspect, the intellectuals are impotent because so many of them are no good. In America it is a sign of the times that their leader is the mobile cheeseburger.” (English historian Paul Johnson in reference to the intellectuals political standard bearer Michael Moore: quoted from the Wall Street Journal 11.23.04.)
A Thugs Life
(Excerpted from Andrew McCarthys article on Yasser Arafat: The Father Of Modern Terrorism that appeared in the National Review dated 11.12.04.)
“About him, while there is much to say, there is little to glean. He was a thug. One of the most cunning of all time for sure, but quite simply a ruthless, thoroughly corrupt, will-to-power thug.
“As is often the case in the modern information age, just about everything in his life is known and almost nothing in his proffered legend is true. The man airbrushed in Thursday-morning encomiums from Kofi Annan and Jacques Chirac (among others) as the courageous symbol of Palestinian nationalism was not really named Yasser Arafat, was not a native Palestinian, and tended to sit out warfare with Israel whenever conventional fighting was involved.
“Although he occasionally claimed to have hailed from what are now the Palestinian territories, Muhammad Abdel Rahman Abdel Rauf al-Qudwa al-Husseini was actually born in Egypt in 1929, the fifth child of a well-to-do merchant. He was educated in Cairo, although, after his mothers death when he was four, he lived at least part of the time with an uncle in Jerusalem .
“While Arafats mantel as the “Father of Palestine” is dubious given that he is singularly responsible for the failure of a Palestinian nation to emerge, his credentials as the “Father of Modern Terrorism” are solid. In the late 1950s, he co-founded Fatah, the “Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine.” His mother, and thus Fatahs, was the sneak attack on soft Israeli targets, the better to maximize carnage and fear. The first efforts were ham-handed: failed attempts in 1965 to bomb the national water carrier and the railroad. But the organization soon hit its stride, successfully attacking villages and civilian infrastructure. By 1969, Arafat was the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the umbrella group he never ceased to dominate after merging Fatah into it a year earlier. The PLO had a single purpose: the destruction of Israel .”
Those dastardly Scouts
“The Pentagon will soon start warning military bases worldwide that they should not directly sponsor Boy Scout troops because the group requires its members to believe in God, reports the Associated Press. To settle a 1999 lawsuit from the ACLU, the Pentagon agreed to warn bases not to officially sponsor groups of boys who pledge to do their duty to God and their country, to help other people at all times and to stay physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. “If our Constitutions promise of religious liberty is to be a reality, the government should not be administering religious oaths or discriminating based on religious beliefs, said ACLU lawyer Adam Schwartz.” (From GOPUSA and as listed at The Government Executive website www.govexec.com)
